We are seeking an exceptional teacher to join a warm and ambitious primary school that caters to children aged 4-11 with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, ADHD, speech and language challenges, and the effects of trauma.
About the Role
In this role, you will be working within a nurturing and supportive environment, leading engaging and personalised learning experiences that help students reach their full potential. The school’s curriculum is tailored to meet the unique needs of each child, with small class sizes (no more than ten pupils) and a high level of adult support. As a teacher, you will:
Promote and facilitate the academic progress and well-being of individual SEN pupils across the curriculum.
Lead and deliver high-quality, needs-focused learning activities that support students’ individual development.
Implement effective teaching and behaviour regulation strategies, ensuring students feel safe, valued, and encouraged.
Work collaboratively with a skilled team of professionals, including occupational and play therapists, speech and language therapists, and other external agencies.
Play a key role in annual review meetings, EHCP monitoring, and risk assessments to support each student’s personalised learning journey.
Engage with parents/carers regularly, fostering strong, positive relationships to support student progress.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess outstanding lessons, ensuring a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum for all students.
Work proactively with leadership, support staff, and external professionals to create tailored support plans.
Monitor and support student progress, ensuring all pupils achieve their individual goals in line with EHCP and IEP requirements.
Implement evidence-based teaching approaches such as TEACCH, Makaton, Attention Autism, and Precision Instruction.
Participate in offsite trips, visits, and outdoor activities as part of the curriculum, including forest school, mountain biking, and problem-solving exercises.
Maintain high standards of behaviour and expectations, using relational learning approaches that focus on playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy.
Experience & Knowledge
Essential:
Proven experience teaching primary-age pupils with additional needs in either a mainstream or special school setting.
Understanding of behaviour as communication and the importance of relational learning.
Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and best practices in supporting children with SEMH needs.
Experience in writing and reviewing EHCPs, IEPs, and personalised interventions.
A commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence of relevant training.
Desirable:
Experience in various educational settings, including mainstream schools.
SEND-related qualifications or training (e.g., SENCO qualification, mental health training).
Experience in curriculum leadership or a TLR role.
