Summary:
Our Academy in St Helens is dedicated to fostering a safe, caring, and inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically and personally. We are seeking a First Aid Officer with a valid first aid qualification to join our supportive team. This role is central to the wellbeing of our students, ensuring prompt, compassionate, and professional care for anyone who becomes unwell or injured during the school day.
The successful candidate will manage the academy’s first aid room, administer prescribed and over-the-counter medicines in line with policy, liaise with parents and carers, and maintain accurate health and incident records. This is an immediate start position, ideally commencing tomorrow, working 8:30am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday, term time only.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Health & First Aid
- Provide first aid and immediate care to students and staff in accordance with training and academy policies.
- Assess students who are unwell and decide on appropriate next steps, including rest, return to class, or parent contact.
- Administer prescribed and over-the-counter medications safely, maintaining accurate records of all treatments.
- Monitor and maintain first aid supplies and ensure the first aid room remains clean, organised, and fully equipped.
- Respond calmly and efficiently to emergencies, ensuring the safety and comfort of all individuals involved.
Communication & Liaison
- Liaise with parents, carers, and the pastoral team regarding student health and welfare matters.
- Communicate effectively with teaching and support staff to ensure appropriate follow-up and support for students.
- Provide relevant health updates and contribute to the wider safeguarding and pastoral care framework.
Record Keeping & Administration
- Accurately record all first aid incidents, treatments, and medication administrations.
- Maintain up-to-date medical information for students in line with confidentiality and GDPR requirements.
Support compliance with statutory health and safety obligations and internal reporting systems.
Pastoral & School Contribution
- Promote a culture of care, respect, and wellbeing within the academy community.
- Support the pastoral team in addressing health-related barriers to learning.
- Participate in staff meetings, safeguarding training, and professional development sessions as required.
Professional Standards & Development
- Maintain an up-to-date First Aid Certificate and ensure continued professional development in relevant areas such as safeguarding, child protection, and health management.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and discretion in all aspects of the role.
- Uphold academy and trust policies, including safeguarding, confidentiality, and equal opportunities.
Essential Requirements
- Valid First Aid qualification (First Aid at Work or equivalent).
