Standard mainstream education doesn't work for every student—and that’s where we come in. We are a dedicated Alternative Provision (AP) supporting young people who have faced barriers to learning in mainstream environments, including those with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, ASD, and trauma histories.
We don't just teach subjects; we rebuild confidence, foster resilience, and provide a safe space for young people to re-engage with their future. We are seeking experienced, highly resilient, and adaptable Secondary Teachers specialising in Maths, Science with Food & Nutrition, or English to join our tight-knit team on a full-time, long-term basis.
Choose Your Impact: Subject Pathways
We have openings across three core curriculum areas. In an AP setting, your classes will be small (typically 4 to 8 students) allowing you to truly differentiate and connect.
1. English Teacher
The Mission: Re-engage students with the power of literacy, communication, and storytelling. You will deliver functional skills and GCSE English, focusing on building confidence in reading and writing for students who may have significant learning gaps.
2. Maths Teacher
The Mission: Demystify mathematics by stripping away subject anxiety. You will teach practical, real-world numeracy alongside formal GCSE/Functional Skills curricula, making maths accessible, concrete, and relevant to everyday life.
3. Science with Food & Nutrition Teacher
The Mission: Deliver a highly practical, sensory, and engaging curriculum. You will lead core Science lessons alongside Food & Nutrition/Cookery. This combined pathway is incredibly therapeutic for AP students, blending academic science with vital life skills and hands-on hospitality concepts.
Key Responsibilities
Adaptive Delivery: Plan and deliver highly differentiated, engaging lessons tailored to the individual academic and emotional needs of students.
Holistic Behaviour Management: Utilize trauma-informed practices and robust de-escalation strategies to manage highly challenging behavior calmly and effectively.
EHCP Tracking: Work closely with the ALNCO to implement and review Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Nurturing Environment: Create a low-arousal, structured, and emotionally safe classroom culture.
Collaboration: Partner with multi-agency teams, including youth workers, therapists, and social services, to support the holistic wellbeing of the child.
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Or significant verifiable experience teaching the UK national curriculum in an AP/SEN setting.
Proven AP/SEN Experience: Explicit experience working with young people displaying high-level SEMH needs, complex behaviors, or trauma.
Unwavering Resilience: A thick skin, a calm demeanor under pressure, and a deep understanding that "behaviour is communication."
Flexibility: The ability to pivot a lesson plan entirely if a student enters the room in a state of crisis.
Safeguarding Excellence: An airtight understanding of safeguarding policies and practices.
Desirable
Team Teach, MAPA, or equivalent positive handling and de-escalation certification.
