Zen Educate is working with a specialist educational setting for children whose primary need has been identified as Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. All the students who attend The Promise School have Education & Health Care Plans (EHCPS). A significant proportion of the students have a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), attachment difficulties and Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
Engaging our students in learning is a key focus. The whole school community is committed to providing an effective learning environment within classes of usually no more than eight students. In addition to our highly experienced teaching and pastoral support teams who provide learning, family and student wellbeing support, we are seeking to develop and deepen our own in-house specialist team by employing a Speech and Language Therapist and Counsellor. The Promise School has strong relationships with external professionals in order to ensure that a holistic support package is in place to support each individual pupil to meet their needs.
Our approach to behaviour management is trauma informed and involves carefully selected rewards, clear consequences and consistency of approach that recognises individual pupil needs and circumstances. We include parents/carers/families in the whole school community and recognise our approach will be far more effective when a close partnership exists. Clear communication between school staff, families and the wider community is vital to maximise the expectations, confidence, and self-esteem of every student in our school.
